Before your first appointment in our Melbourne, AR office, we want to get a few things straight. First, you don't need to lay on the couch with your eyes closed and walk us through what you remember about your birth-unless you want to. You also don't necessarily need to go through a full pack of facial tissues crying through every session - unless that's the emotion you're feeling. We also aren't likely to hypnotize you to unlock repressed memories-your mind repressed those memories for a reason. Instead, you should think of individual therapy as a conversation with someone who can offer you objective feedback, a safe outlet, and a helping hand to develop the skills you need to get through the hurdles that life throws at you. At Prospering Hope Counseling, our clinicians offer a variety of therapy solutions to help people lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. No hypnosis, crying, or napping on our couch required!
What Happens During Therapy Sessions?
After your initial intake appointment, your therapy sessions will likely begin as simply as this-Your clinician will ask, "How was your week?" The response you give to that question will guide where we take our visit. When challenges arise, we'll discuss how you handled them. Then, we'll walk through coping strategies and help you build the skills to meet daily challenges head on. In most cases, your therapy session is that simple. In some cases, people are working through specific trauma or other struggles that make it necessary for us to focus our visits on improving these areas, including practicing coping strategies, safety planning, and other solutions-focused therapy methods.
